American Made, Does That Really Matter?

American Made Means So Much More Than You Think!

“American made” means higher manufacturing standards and values which in turn means better, safer and more humane. Better standards bring better things!

Americans still believe in our God given rights and virtues. We still like to reach for the stars! We have a sense of pride in pursuing the best and being the best we can be, and we believe we are free to do it. We don’t push and promote nationalism but rather freedom and virtue pushes and promotes a nation. This is our living conviction, that people ought to be free to choose to pursue this meaningful success as a way of life and that it benefits anyone and harms no one!

The USA has become the envy of the world. Yet, we are not blind to the crazy world that we live in and the fact that our beloved country and precious freedom has enemies and critics. They accuse, oppose, vilify and even threaten our freedom, our democracy, our values and our sometimes our lives.  To think there are entire governments and regimes that oppose the USA and seek to harm Miss Lady Liberty, but she’s is very tough! ….

…. And so are American made products!

Undisputedly, since America in general offers the best standard of living in the world, let’s ask the question for those detractors who can’t see the obvious.

Why should You Love America?

America is still leading the way and showing the world how our freedom means we can pursue the best. America is not the best at everything! I repeat, America is not the best at everything! Yes, this country has problems and issues, of all sizes, to work through. But the USA still leads the Free world.

But let’s take a step back for a moment from business enterprise and consider first what might be the greatest category of all to be the best at? How about charity. First and foremost, America is number #1 in giving. That’s right, America is the most charitable nation in the world. One stat shows how citizens of the USA freely give more, around 3%, of its collective income to charity and this is more than the citizens of any other country. That’s not to mention the 32 billion in foreign aid the USA gives to other countries thanks to the hardworking and generous American tax payers! So, American democratically established capitalism is not the greedy monolithic beast that communists and socialists deplore it to be. And maybe this humanity first approach adds to why Americans unashamedly chant USA! USA! USA! When we get the chance to root for our teams, wave our flags and celebrate in our parades. We recognize, defend and boast in what this freedom means for us to the rest of the world in hope that all may see that it is essential for all humanity around the world who wish to determine for themselves to be and do their best.

Is There A Difference In How America Makes Things Compared to Other Countries?

This American way pays dividends in all directions! With Providence from above this is how America was made and this is how America makes things. The Made in America Movement (MAM) outlines for us 10 great reasons why and how American manufacturing standards much higher and how this makes Americans and American stuff better:

  1. Foreign labor standards allow unsafe working conditions in many countries. When you buy made in the USA products, you support not only American manufacturers but also American workers, safe working conditions, and child labor laws.

  1. Jobs shipped abroad almost never return. When you buy made in the USA products, you help keep the American economy growing.

  1. US manufacturing processes are much cleaner for the environment than many other countries; many brands sold here are produced in countries using dangerous, heavily polluting processes. When you purchase made in USA products, you know that you’re helping to keep the world a little cleaner for your children.

  1. Many countries have no minimum wage restrictions, or the minimum wage is outrageously low. When you choose made in the USA products, you contribute to the payment of an honest day’s wages for an honest day’s work.

  1. The growing lack of USA ability to manufacture many products is strategically unsound. When you seek out American made products, you foster American independence.

  1. The huge US trade deficit leads to massive, unsustainable borrowing from other countries. Debt isn’t good for you (or your children!) and it isn’t good for America.

  1. Foreign product safety standards are low. For example, poisonous levels of lead are in tens of millions of toys shipped to the USA. When you buy toys and other made in the USA products, you can be confident that American consumer protection laws and safety standards are in place to protect your family.

  1. Lack of minimum wage, worker safety, or environmental pollution controls in many countries undermines the concept of “fair and free trade”. No Western nation can ultimately compete on price with a country willing to massively exploit and pollute its own people. When you buy only American-made products, you insist on a higher standard.

  1. Factories and money are shifting to countries not friendly to the USA or democracy. When you avoid imported goods in favor of American made items, you help ensure that the United States doesn’t find its access to vital goods impacted by political conflict.

  1. As the US manufacturing ability fades, future generations of US citizens will be unable to find relevant jobs. Buy American and help keep your friends and neighbors – and even yourself – earning a living wage.

Finally, What About American Products, Is There Really A Difference In Quality?

Back in 2015 Consumer Reports put out these figures, saying “80% of Americans say they prefer to purchase products made in the United States. More than 60% say they’d even pay more for an American-made product.”

The label “Made in America”, denotes the reputation for better quality, class and durability. Manufacturers in the United States of America are known for doing things right the first time. US manufacturers cannot compete on price with the manufacturers around the world that much labor and other associated costs. Instead, manufacturers in the US look to compete on quality, service, or speed. They attempt to make things better since they cannot win by making them cheaper. This premium brand identity drives American manufacturers who have the commitment to invest more in advanced manufacturing plants and technology, which leverages and advantage in manufacturing process in the areas of precision and flexibility. The precision and flexibility improves the craftsmanship, design and overall quality.

Additionally, American made products are known for innovations and craftsmanship. For example, you can tell the difference between a well-crafted piece of furniture, appliance, tool or part that was produced quickly to rush it out to the market place. You can feel the difference in the materials and structural design. You can see it in the quality of the fabrics and see the difference when you pull open a drawer, turn a handle or open and close a gadget or compartment. Many American furniture makers hand craft their pieces from solid wood and other natural materials. Same story with American made shoes, toys, clothes, hardware, automotive parts, etc.  Most styles and structures are made from genuine leather, more rigorous polymers or better quality metals. Across the market place in all areas American manufacturers are making more durable products that last longer and all around better performance.

Furthermore, the top manufacturing companies in America abide by strict labor laws as human resources are valued more than materials and manufacturing in this country. These laws ensure that products are made under humane working conditions and meet today’s stringent safety standards. Low pay and child labor will never be factored into getting products made. When the workers are taken care of then they run the manufacturing process better. This plays strongly in consistently producing products of high quality.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ensures manufacturers produce quality products that are safe for consumers. Buying goods made in the U.S. means you can rest easy knowing your products comply with American consumer protection laws and safety standards. In 2007, dozens of types of children’s toys made in China were recalled because they were unsafe. Some posed a choking hazard, while others contained dangerous chemicals like lead paint and kerosene, according to The New York Times.

Will You Look For American Made Products Next Time You Shop?

Almost anything you need to buy, from clothing to furniture, to appliances to electronics can be found to be made by an American manufacturer – if you take the time and search for them. U.S. consumers should strongly consider first spending their shopping dollars on quality products that are “Made in America.”

What do you think of America and products made in America Now?  If you can see the importance of choosing higher values and standards, then you can put your dollars where your values are and in doing so you will continue to support a better way of life and show the rest of the world the best of the USA.
