Powerstride’s Proper Battery Care Tip # 1

Powerstride’s Proper Battery Care Tip # 1

New batteries should be given a full charge before use

This is a very “common sense” tip!  To get the longest possible life out of your battery, make you start it off from a healthy place.  We "Top-Charge" every battery that we ship, but not all distributors do.

As a rule of thumb always check that voltage upon receiving your battery. Keeping your batteries topped off before storage or even before use is a great habit.  The key to long life for a battery is using it! This will keep the chemical reactions in the battery fresh and ensure that you get many many good years of service out of your battery.

If you aren't able to use your batteries for a period of time, we highly recommend a trickle charger to keep them in top shape.  Here at Powerstride, we use the Battery Tender Jr, because it's affordable and has circuitry to prevent overcharging of the battery.  You can see it at the following link.

If possible, we also recommend disconnecting your batteries for the periods when you are unable to use them.  Many vehicles have some kind of "parasitic draw," like a clock, a small night light or something similar.  This draw can quickly drain your battery and in some cases, can overcome the trickle charger's ability to charge!  The last thing you want is to come back to your battery after a long summer, having put it on a trickle charger, and find it dead anyways.

If you follow these tips, you'll set your battery up for it's longest possible life.  We want your batteries to last for many years, and if you have any questions about how to properly maintain a battery, please give us a call at (877) 576-9379
